Natural Cleaning Tips & Recipes for the Kitchen

Using essential oils around the house is a very effective, natural way to clean.  Here a few ideas:

Simply add 1-2 drops lemon, On Guard or other disinfecting oil to a damp cloth and use to wipe down your kitchen counters, tables or hobs.

To deodorise the dustbin add 3-5 drops of deodorising essential oil or blend to 1 tablespoon baking powder and sprinkle into your dustbin.

To clean/deodorise carpets mix 1 cup baking soda and 20-50 drops Melaleuca, Lemon, Purify or other favourite oil in a glass jar. Close the jar, shake well and let stand overnight. Sprinkle lightly over carpets, let sit for 15 minutes and then vacuum.

Some disinfecting oils you can use are On Guard (protective blend), Lemon, Purify (cleansing blend) Melaleuca, Lime, Cinnamon, Thyme, and Peppermint.

Some deodorising oils: Purify (cleansing blend), Peppermint, Clary Sage, Melaleuca, Lavender, Geranium and Eucalyptus.

As you can see a few oils are both disinfecting and deodorising which makes them even more useful to have in your essential oil collection.

Disinfecting Spray:

½ cup white vinegar

½ cup water

Small spray bottle

15 drops On Guard (or another disinfecting essential oil)

Combine all ingredients in a small spray bottle. Shake well, and spray on counters, cutting boards, microwave, refrigerator, dustbins, or any other surface, and wipe off.
